Year 3 and 4 football - fixture 1 of 3!

This year, nearly 70 children in Year 3 and 4 have been attending lunchtime football club, led by the inspiring Miss Mumford and Mr Howard. For half the year, these children have been attending a weekly girls' or boys' session to learn the sport, improve team work, sports-person-ship and resilience whilst getting active and having some serious fun!
On Wednesday 12th February, we travelled to Whitehill School for the first of 3 football fixtures that are taking place this term. All the children that have attended the club this year are now getting the experience of donning WR kit and representing their school in a competitive match against another school - all VERY exciting!
The girls' game could not have been more exciting; amazing team work, support and talent was on show and it was clear that all the girls who took part were really enjoying themselves! They showed great character on the pitch, especially, as it was a first match for the majority of players. From the beginning, there was some great attacking play from Salma, Zara P and Phoebe. This is followed by great performances in midfield from Cassie, Zara F, Helena and Haniya. Sophia’s passing and shot stopping in goal was amazing as well as the defensive tackles from Amelie, Abby and Eleanor. Excellent team work shown by encouraging one another and this obviously paid off as they won 8 goals to 6!
In the boys' game, also incredible teamwork and it was great to see them all really championing each other. Every one played their part, with great defensive work from Jacob, Harry and Shailen. Adarsh was a safe pair of hands in goal making some great saves to keep us in the lead. Ned, Alexander, Murray, Max H and Jake battled hard, creating some lovely chances and goals from Jake and Murray. Another storming win, with the final score a win for WR at 3-1.
We were so proud of all 20 children and we can't wait for the next round of matches after half term!
