Safeguarding & Wellbeing

William Ransom Safeguarding Statement

Everyone at William Ransom Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and staff. Through our safeguarding culture, all members of our school community share this commitment. Our main priority is that all of the children in our care feel safe, secure and happy.

To verify that all adults who work in our school are suitable, we ensure a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check has been undertaken. We also require appropriate references, explicitly referring to an adult’s suitability to work with young children. All staff are trained in child protection procedures and have the safety of the children in mind at all times. We have policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy which can be viewed in the Policies section of our website. We continually audit our practice to ensure this is up to date and effective. Our Governing Body share this same level of commitment.

We may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. Where possible, we will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

We are an Operation Encompass school. Operation Encompass is a national police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people who experience Domestic Violence and Abuse and which is in place in every police force in England and Wales.

Operation Encompass means that the police will share information with our school about all police attended Domestic Abuse incidents which involve any of our children PRIOR to the start of the next school day.
