Elizabeth Barber - local author - came in to school to talk to keystage 2 children about her new book: Stone Arrows.
Set in 7000BCE around the middle of the Mesolithic period of hunter gatherers and based on careful research, Stone Arrows is an original novel combining an exciting adventure with historical detail. It paints a wonderful picture of how life was lived in these far-off times – the terrain, the wild animals, the clothing, the sights and smells – while telling an engaging and fast-moving story.
These children came to tell me what they thought of the assembly:
Paarav: 'Mrs Barber brought in a deer skull.'
Seth: 'It was amazing how finding one piece of flint gave her the whole idea for a book.'
Julia: 'She was digging in her garden and found a rock, which she took to the museum and they told her it was a real piece of flint used in the Stone Age.'
Felix: 'The assembly definitely inspired me and it made me want to read the book.'
Adam: 'She found a spearhead in the garden and it made me want to go and dig in the garden to find one.'
