Year 5 Art gallery

To conclude our Art topic on Maps and Typography, year 5 created their own 'art gallery' where they could enjoy each other's work.

Children created their own 'personality maps', or maps about themselves, thinking about the typography and fine liner skills they had learnt. They enjoyed this more abstract idea of a map, and some even experimented with paper to make theirs three-dimensional.

When they were completed, the children carefully displayed their maps in Larch, ready for the grand gallery opening!

Children took the time to take in all the artwork, and to think about their own feelings and reactions to them, which they jotted down.

This was a wonderful way to conclude the topic, and give children the opportunity to take the time to view each other's pieces. But perhaps most importantly, it helped them gain confidence in considering, and then expressing their own opinions about a piece of art, and led to some interesting discussions afterwards.
